How to Clean Whites for Your Drop Off Service

Wascomat Dealers in North Carolina

If your laundromat offers drop off service for your customers, you know that there are some laundry issues that are more difficult to tackle than others. From getting out grass stains to properly treating wine stains, your customers expect you to be laundry wizards. Part of your magic is keeping their whites sparkling white. Speed Queen and T & L Laundry Equipment have compiled their top tips for helping your employees work their magic when it comes to your drop off service customers's whites. These simple steps will help ensure that your customers's clothes continue to look their best.

When it comes to washing whites, it's important to make sure that you are following the same steps for each and every load.

  • Wash at the maximum temperature allowed for the fabric. For cotton and rayon fabric this is a warm setting. For towels, sheets and socks - use the hottest water setting available. For delicates - like blouses and undergarments - be sure that the item is in fact machine washable and note the manufacturer's temperature suggestion - this can vary by garment. Most delicates are safe for a cold water wash on a gentle cycle. The right water temperature is key to removing build up and other dirt from the items effectively.
  • For all plain white items use a detergent with bleach.
  • For patterned whites do not use bleach, instead choose a bleach alternative product to add to the wash to give the whites a boost and protect the pattern of the garment.
  • Cottons and towels should be dried with high heat. Separate towels from sheets and clothing to eliminate the transfer of excess towel lint. Dry synthetic fabrics on medium or low heat depending on the manufacturer's settings. If possible, air dry delicate items.

Industry experts recommend using 'built detergents' to launder sturdier items like towels, tees and socks. Also, choosing the right bleach is important. For those all white items, choose the bleaching product that contains the most chlorine. Typically, chlorine bleach solutions vary from 1.5 - 6 percent, with commercial products having up to an 8 percent chlorine content. In addition to using the right products for the items you are laundering make sure that you are using the correct washing cycle. Whites require a longer wash cycle - usually 20 - 24 minutes. With the proper water temperature, detergent and cycle length there is no reason your customers's whites shouldn't be blindingly brilliant.

For customers who bring in heavily soiled whites, don't just dump them in the wash and hope for the best. Utilize a spot pre-treating method with your drop off laundry accounts. This is especially important for items like towels - think women's make up - or banquet linens - wine stains and gravy- and sports team gear. Apply the pre-treater to the stains directly and allow them to sit while you sort the remainder of the load or fold another customers's clothing. With pre-treatment these items should come clean in a regular wash cycle.

Drying times vary by the items so keep delicates separate from sturdier items like towels and sheets. Tumble dry items based on the manufacturer's recommendations. Synthetic fabric items should be removed from the dryer right away.
