We've been in the laundry business for over 40 years and the experienced staff here at T & L Laundry Equipment has partnered with some of our long time laundromat owners to bring you this list of tips for washing your clothes at the laundromat. Choosing a laundromat to wash at is easy. Look for one that features high efficiency, large capacity machines from reliable brands like Speed Queen or Continental. The laundromat should also have plenty of seating and folding tables.
These are our best tips for using a coin-op for your laundry needs. If you're searching for Electrolux dealers in Greenville, SC, stop wasting time. Call T & L instead. We're the top Speed Queen and Continental commercial equipment dealer in NC. We save you time and money!
Set yourself up for success
- Pretreat and presoak all your stained clothes at home. Do not waste your time by taking a bunch of extra products with you to the laundromat. You will just use 3 squirts and then have to stand around waiting for it to go in the wash.
- Separate your laundry into bags before you go. Unlike at home, you can wash more than one load at a time in the laundromats. Having all of your clothes separated will make it easier and you will get the job done faster.
- Make sure you take enough laundry detergent and fabric softener with you for all your loads.
- Make sure you empty out the piggybank if you know that your local laundromat only takes coins. Many newer laundromats use a prepaid card system but you still need cash. If this is your first time at this laundromat, call ahead and see what their machines use.
- Take baskets to place your clean laundry in. The last thing you want to do is spend all that time and effort going to the laundromat and just putting it back into the filthy bags you brought it in. You might want to put the dirty clothes in plastic bags and have a basket or two to place your clean folded laundry in. This will help you keep all your clothes together while the others wash and will be easy to transport.
Getting the Job Done
Know when to go. Just like grocery stores, laundromats will have a peak time. Typically this will be the weekends or during early evenings as people get off from work. If you can go during the week in the morning you will most likely have a better chance of getting two or three open washers and you'll be able to get the job done faster.
Pick your washer and stay with it. Unfortunately, it is a first come first serve type of situation here and if you don’t stay with your laundry it can be taken out by someone else.
Read the machine instructions to get the best results, if you don’t know ask the attendant.
Remember to check all the settings of the machines before you wash your items. Not everyone is washing the same type of fabrics and the last thing you want to do is have your clothes ruined by the wrong water setting.
Make sure you use the correct amount of product; most of these washers are much bigger than the ones you have at home so adjusting the loads and detergents is necessary.
Wipe out the washer and dryer before you use them. People wash all kinds of things in these washers so it's always a good idea to check to see if there is any hair or other items in there before you start your wash.
Following these tips from our laundry industry partners can help ensure that you have a great laundromat experience! Interested in owning your own laundromat? Give T & L Laundry Equipment a call. We'd love to talk to you about coin-op ownership and we offer convenient in-house financing.
