Top Ten Biggest Mistakes Men Make at the Laundromat

Many men are uncomfortable in a laundromat. Pre-treating stains, choosing the right water temperature or the right detergent can be overwhelming. The professionals at T & L Laundry Equipment have compiled a list of the best tips to help you make your laundry less of a chore!

Too hot to handle: Washing and drying on too hot of a setting is a common mistake. Guys are often under the impression that if their clothes are stinky they should use hot water to wash them, but a cold cycle will work for 90% of clothing items unless they are completely covered in grease. Many men complain that their clothes shrink after the first wash, but this could also happen during the drying cycle. Most people think that the hotter you set the dryer the faster it will dry, but this actually just ends up ruining your clothes.

Choose a laundromat that has the latest energy star rated washers and dryers from Speed Queen. These machines not only offer large capacities but they also utilize less water making the cycles shorter - which means you can be in, out and done more quickly!

I belong with you: Taking the time to sort your clothes will also help keep your clothes in better condition. Wash clothes with similar colors together and don’t ever wash your work clothes and your towels in the same load. You also don't want to put your jeans and dark t-shirts in the same pile with white socks and t-shirts. Darks should always get a cold wash. Whites can be washed in warmer water depending on the fabric. The last thing you want to do is wash your red and white shirts together and end up with a brand new stock of pink ones.

Finders keepers: Look for loose change or any other strange things in your pockets. Nothing is worse than accidentally polka-dotting your favorite vintage Grateful Dead t-shirt because you forgot to take the pen out of your jean pocket. Make sure to check the bottoms of the washing machines at your laundromat as well. As hard as attendants work to keep machines clean, things get left behind.

Washing your clothes too often: Frequent laundering, especially  dry cleaning, can be very harsh on clothes and will make cotton work shirts shrink if you do it too many times. Dry cleaning can break down glue in winter coats and make them lose years off their life span. Unless you were cleaning your grandmother's attic for 12 hours and sweating you can place that chunky Christmas sweater back in the closet for the next wear. Definitely take your sports coats in to get dry cleaned, especially if you wear them often. They will smell fresh and it will keep stains away. Do not  wash them in the washing machine even if the label says you can.

Finding a date: We have all seen movies where they meet in the laundromat, but studies have shown that girls get really uncomfortable when a man talks to them while they do their laundry, especially their intimates. So, try to get her number some other time.
