Welcome back to our continuing series on your business' Google My Business listing. In our previous post, we explained why these Google local business listings are so important and why your business needs to claim this listing. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the process to claim your business' local listing, this post will provide the information you need to claim and optimize the information to help your potential customers locate your business. It is important to remember that claiming your local business listing isn't enough to make your business show at the top of local search results. Google My Business listings are free. This easy to use tool helps you manage your business presence across multiple Google platforms including Maps and Search. When you verify your business through a Google My Business listing, you are helping customers find you and the information they need about your business.
To claim your Google My Business Listing:
- Search for your business on Google. When you find your business, you will see a link that says "Own this business?"
- Click on "Own this business?" on the right side of the screen.
- Log in to your Gmail account or create a Gmail account if you do not have one.
- Once you have signed into Gmail, you will be shown a map. Search for your laundromat and find the right listing on the map. Don't see your listing? No problem. Choose the "Add Your Business" option and enter all the information you're asked for about your business.
- Be sure that all of your business' information is correct. If you need to make changes, select the option to "Verify Later." However, if everything is ready to go, you'll be asked to choose a verification method. Follow the instructions provided.
- If your business information needs to be changed or corrected, you'll be taken to your Google My Business page. You can take the guided tour and learn how to edit your listing and can correct or add any information. Choose your verification method and follow the instructions provided.
- Remember that choosing to verify by mail can take one to two weeks. A postcard will arrive from Google that will contain an important code and instructions on how to complete the verification process.
Once you have completed the verification process for your laundromat, your business' Google My Business listing will be live. You'll be able to update your listing information for holiday hours, new location photos, and see reviews that customers have posted about your business. Keeping this listing updated is crucial. Your customers and potential patrons will rely on this listing to give them accurate information.
