Use a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water to clean towels. You can also use bleach for white towels, but using white vinegar is much more efficient. Ideally, it is recommended that water should be 150°, however, not all washing machines can reach that high of a temperature. In order to make sure you're killing the bacteria, set your washer on the highest hot setting. Dry at a hot temperature, as well. Use a laundry room that is well ventilated so that moisture and mold can be reduced, as well.
