Keeping Your Commercial Towels Looking Fresh and Clean

One of the best, all natural, yet unbelievably powerful cleaning agents is white vinegar. Not only does it give you a great clean towel, it also helps remove stubborn odors. Use a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water to clean towels. You can also use bleach for white towels, but using white vinegar is much more efficient. Below, you'll find the benefits of using it for your cleaning detergent.

  • Brightens white and colored towels
  • Keeps towels naturally softened without using chemicals
  • Gets rid of mildewy and musty smells
  • Distilled white vinegar contains no tannins or dyes
  • Eco-friendly and low acidity

Did you know that the dryer sheets and fabric softeners you purchase are actually bad for towels? They lower the absorbency of them. Because softeners leave a thin layer of wax on the towels, it's important to eliminate them. At least skip them every three or four washes to ensure that your towels last longer.

Brand-new towels directly from the manufacturer often contain a coating that leaves them feeling soft but drying less. In order to increase absorbency, wash the towels at least five times before you offer them to your customers. They will work more efficiently.

Never leave wet towels sitting in the dryer. Not only will mildew cause a terrible odor, bacteria and some parasites can actually grow on the wet towels as they sit. If this does happen accidentally, rewash with hot water and white vinegar. It will kill bacteria and odor and leave towels smelling great.

To make sure towels stay fluffy after they've been used multiple times, always shake wet towels out before placing them in the dryer. Doing so right after they've been washed will add fluff while they dry. Then, as they're done drying fold them neatly, immediately. This will not only add volume but also cause the towel fibers to stand up, increasing absorbency.

Washer water should be at least 130° to ensure that it is killing any bacteria on towels. Ideally, it is recommended that water should be 150°, however, not all washing machines can reach that high of a temperature. In order to make sure you're killing the bacteria, set your washer on the highest hot setting. Dry at a hot temperature, as well. Use a laundry room that is well ventilated so that moisture and mold can be reduced, as well.
