Have you ever had an ink stain on your clothing and wondered what to do? Your first thought might be that the garment is ruined. However, there are several ways to get rid of this unsightly stain.
Of course, treating the ink stain as soon as it happens is ideal. Fresh, wet ink is much easier to remove than that which has dried into the fibers. If your ink stain is fresh, blot the area with a clean damp cloth to get the excess out of the way. Be sure not to rub at the stain. Rubbing will cause the ink to spread.
Once you got the excess ink removed, wash the garment out in the sink. Then, launder as normal or with a heavy duty detergent. Before drying, make sure the stain is completely gone. Launder again if the stain is not gone after the first wash. Once you see that it has been completely removed, you can then heat dry without any issues. Drying a stained garment might result in a stain that is set in and harder to remove.
If you have no way of cleaning the garment immediately, don't worry. There are several ways you can remove the ink later.
Lemon juice and laundry detergent is a great mixture that you can mix yourself in equal parts. Soak the garment in the mixture for at least two hours and then wash in cold water as normal.
Dab ink stains with fresh cold milk to clear up the ink as much as possible. Then, soak the garment in warm milk as a pre-treatment before laundering as normal. Again, as we mentioned above, do not dry the garment until the stain is completely gone. To ensure that the milk does its job you can leave the clothing soaking for 12 or more hours.
You can also rely on a dry cleaning company to help you with your seemingly ruined clothing. Many businesses have a stain specialist who can get the ink out with no problems.
For set in ink, consider using rubbing alcohol. The alcohol will hopefully neutralize the pigmentation in the ink and lift it easily. You can also dilute the rubbing alcohol and soak the effected area for a couple of hours.
