More Mistakes Men Make at The Laundromat
Rubbing on the stains: It makes sense right, you spilled something so you should just rub the stain out. In actual fact, you are making it much worse by rubbing. That ketchup stain from last week’s hotdog needs to be pre-treated or it will follow you around for the next few years. Using a pre-treater and dabbing the fabric with a clean cloth before you go to the laundromat will give it some time to soak in and after a good wash, no one will ever know it was there.
Using bleach: We all probably grew up with moms that used bleach, but it can kill your clothes. Just one small drop can take all the color out. It is much better to use a pre-treater or something like white vinegar or club soda to get tough stains out.
Using too much laundry detergent: If it is extra dirty, I need extra soap, right? NO! We have the luxury of amazing laundry detergents out there and a little goes a long way. Excess suds can actually hold on to dirt from your collar and underarms and move it to other places in your laundry. Use the laundry detergent guidelines and increase the detergent gradually depending on the size load. Hard water will also affect how much soap you need.
Loading it too full: Filling the washer too full will actually keep your clothes from getting clean. You might have to wait for another washer to open up or you might have to spend another 10 dollars, but it is well worth it as your clothes will need the extra water to really allow the soap to reach every single garment. As you load, make sure that you have separated everything correctly. You don't want to risk turning your socks pink!

Try to keep clothes that have zippers together - think jeans with other pants - so that they don't snag finer fabrics.
All buttoned up: On the other hand, you want to unbutton your dress shirts as the wash cycle will place stress on the shirt and button holes and make them pop off prematurely. Make sure to pull these out of the dryer right away and hang them up to shorten your ironing time.
