Clean the lint trap after each load. A build-up of lint can cause problems such as decreased flow through the vents, which can pose a fire risk. At the end of each day, clean it thoroughly. Look for anything trapped in the lint compartment. Dryer sheets or things that have fallen out of pants pockets may have gotten caught in the trap.

Wipe down the interior of the drum to remove any residue. Also check for any objects that may have stuck to the inside. Items such as crayons or lipstick can accidentally end up in the dryer. Once they melt they can make a mess that you will want to catch sooner rather than later. No one wants to discover something like that after they've put their clean clothes inside.

Once a month check the dryer’s exhaust ducts for any lint that may have gotten past the filter. You do not want the ducts to become clogged because it can cause a fire. You also want to make sure you have proper air flow through the vents.

If you own a laundromat, you want your equipment to be clean, so plan to wipe it down once a month or more to keep the outside looking nice. No one wants to put their clothes in a dryer streaked with stains.

Every six months to a year, do a more thorough inspection of the dryer’s parts.

Check the belts to make sure they have not become worn down or cracked. If they have, replace them. A worn belt that snaps can cause more damage to the unit and increase down time. If needed, lubricate bearings.

If the dryer has a fire suppression system, check to make sure it is functioning. It is a protective feature that will put out a fire before it spreads or causes damage.

You can also check the outside weather hood to see if the dampers are working properly. If they need to be cleaned, have them done by a professional.
