Stain Removal Guide for Valentine's Day
When you think Valentine's Day most people think chocolate. Chocolate is the perfect ending to a delicious meal with the one you love, however, chocolate, especially melted chocolate, has a tendency to get a little bit messy. When it comes to dealing with chocolate on your clothes the first step is to refrigerate your garment to keep the chocolate from spreading any further into the cloth. After 10-20 minutes in the cold, remove your garment and scrape any excess chocolate off the fibers. Pre-treat your garment with detergent and wash according to the manufacturer's instructions. If staining is still present, do not dry. Instead, pre-treat and wash again.
Red hearts, red lips, red wine. If your Valentine's celebration included a red wine spill - don't panic! Instead, reach for the salt and sprinkle a fine layer over the stain on your garment and let sit for about an hour. Treat wine stains as soon as possible. The salt should absorb the wine and make the stain much lighter than it was before. Pre-treat and wash according to the manufacturer's instructions.
That perfect shade of red lipstick was a great idea until it ended up on your favorite blouse! Not to worry, your dish soap is your new best friend for fighting greasy stains like lipstick. Dampen the stain with warm water and lay the stained side of your garment down on a paper towel. From the back, gently apply pressure and dish soap to the back of the stain. Make sure to freshen the paper towel's surface as you work so that it can keep absorbing the lipstick and the dish soap. Gently rinse the area with warm water and pre-treat before laundering.
Did your honey surprise you with flowers but now you look like a honey bee from all that flower pollen? That ugly yellow smudge isn't going to wilt your outfit for long! Tap or shake away the excess pollen. Don't wipe! This will only make it worse! Soak the garment in cold water and apply a stain remover. Allow this to sit for about an hour, then gently rub the stain and rinse thoroughly with cold water. Pre-treat again and launder as directed.
