Dealing with Bent Quarters at Your Laundromat, continued

Buy Coin Laundry Equipment SCWelcome back! We are here to pick up right where we left off in our previous blog post. If you missed it, be sure to visit here for the first half of this information! Previously, we talked about bent quarters and how coin drops can become damaged from them. We also talked about a few solutions that you might be able to do without a repair tech's help.

The coin drop uses simple principles to effectively provide security to the owner. This is done using counterbalance weights that stop objects of incorrect weight like washers or other “slugs,” by restricting the size of the object that can be inserted. This way, only a coin the size of a quarter can fit. This method uses gravity, which requires the coin to roll down a precisely angled chute, and by restricting the path of the object so that only a free rolling object can pass through the mechanism thus preventing the use of wires and other objects to trip the mechanism. Finally, an electronic sensor counts the coins so the machine can be vended.

With coin drops on dryers and drying tumblers, lint can build up easily inside the mechanism and interfere with coins passing through or stop them completely. You can either open the drop up as for the washer/bent quarter remedy or use a vacuum to clean the mechanism without disassembly.

Lint can accumulate in dryer coin drops because of the airflow within a dryer for its drying process. When air is moved by the powerful blower fans the air is drawn into the dryer from any openings and this can be amplified through the coin mechanism if intake air to the dryer/dryer burner is restricted from too little intake in the air vent area. Never spray lubricant into your coin drops as this will gum them up and prevent proper operation.

Always turn off power to your equipment before accessing internal parts to avoid physical harm from moving mechanical parts and contacting electrical components which could result in electric shock to yourself or shorting electronic components inadvertently.

We hope this information helps you with any issues you may have with bent quarters or coin drops. To learn more, remember to visit our previous blog linked in the first paragraph!
