To begin, mix together five parts warm water with one part chlorine bleach. Then, soak an old hand towel or washcloth in the solution. Use the towel to wipe down the entire inside of the dryer. If there is any visible residue, be sure to completely remove it. If your towel becomes dirty, rinse it out and re-soak with the solution before continuing. Once you've wiped the entire interior down, allow the dryer to dry. Make sure to leave the door open for at least 30 minutes so that it can air out. Then, once it's dry, place just three white towels in the dryer. Run the machine for an entire cycle on the highest heat.
To make sure all bleach has dried and is no longer a threat to colored clothing, use an old piece of red fabric or clothing you no longer wear. Dry it in the machine for at least 15 to 20 minutes and then check it to see if the color bleeds or fades. If it does, wipe the dryer down with a clean, wet cloth and then allow it to air dry once more.
Another way to deodorize your dryer is by adding two dryer sheets of your choice and a few old wet towels. Make sure the towels are completely saturated but not dripping water. Run the dryer on high heat until the towels are dry. This method will work great for unwanted smells.
Vinegar is a great household cleaning product that does wonders to provide a naturally sanitized clean. Mix together seven parts warm water with one part white vinegar. Then, saturate two to three old towels with the solution. Place the towels in the dryer and run it on the highest heat setting for one cycle. Once the towels have completely dried, funky smells should subside.
