Last post, we left off talking about how bearings in commercial front load washers or washer extractors can fail over time. You may be wondering what might have caused this. Often, it's due to regular usage. Other times, various reasons can cause it.

Below, you'll find ways to find out whether or not your bearing needs to be replaced. Remember, anytime you're in doubt, contact our service techs. We can help you!

When checking the bearings for damage, pick up on the tub within the washer. If it can be lifted, it's probably damaged. You can also turn the tub. It if feels rough or bumpy, it's going to need to be replaced.

The amount of roughness or how much the tub can be lifted when it is turned can be an indication of how bad the bearings are. If they're already at their worst, it's essential to have them replaced immediately. Even if they're barely worn or causing issues, it's important to not ignore the problem. Why? Other issues can occur.

Eventually, if you allow the bad bearings to continue being used, the shaft on the back of the tub can become damaged. Then, the whole tub will need to be replaced. Basically, the sooner the bearing replacement is done, the less expensive it may be, overall.

Sometimes noises might begin during a wash cycle. This can be an indicator of how bad a bearing has become over time. Allowing the bearing to continue on with damage can cause issues with the motor, as well.

If there is a doubt as to where the noise is coming from, the drive belt on the back of the washer extractor can be removed relatively easily. Then, the motor can be run by engaging the motor contactors in the top of the washer or by starting a cycle. If the noise is present then, it’s the motor bearings and somewhat of an easier situation to remedy. If the motor is quiet when it runs, it will be OK to continue, considering the mainframe bearings on the tub’s shaft.

We hope this information helps you determine whether or not your bearings need to be replaced! Remember, contact us if you need help with services dealing with washers or dryers. Our techs can be of assistance!
